I love Shep, but to tell the truth, McCay can make me laugh harder than anyone else, and that is something I thought only O'neill was truly capable of... (still like jack more tho...) neway, Shep is cool in all ways... I was a shep fangirl before I swore off all fangirling... um, Teyla gets points for the stave-fighting, but that's about it... the fact that she has no outstanding characteristics just ends up detracting from the character over-all. At first I didn't like the new weir, (I actually heard they changed it because the first one was blonde and they didn't want her compared with sam... I wonder if that's why they didn't add any blondes til later on...) but I think I actually like her a lot now. Ford looks cool, but we really haven't seen enough of his actual personality to be able to tell much. Beckett won us all over with his accent and... gosh, I don't know what it is, but he is awesome!

Zelenka ROCKS!!! there, i said it...

Hmm..Personally, i prefer characters that have some unpredictability to them, like Mckay, Sheppard etc..also the reason I cannot stand O Neil, teal'c and Tayla..they all very 'typecast.' O neil attempts (in my view, it'a attempt) to play a smart man being dumb, though it's so old hat now, i can pratically say his lines with him..and it would be the first time I saw that episode. Teal'c strikes me as the 'playing too serious' type, when his character clearly is not. While he annoys me less than O neil, he does grate my nerves on that score..must be the exaggerated scowling. Teyla is getting better, admittedly, but she still is the obligatory alien guide she's showing her character to be. I'd be more interested perhaps later in the second season, since they said they'd give her more airtime.

Feel free to disagree though.

Well, my ultimate favorite is Ronon (that's why I'm playing him) but McKay just makes me happy... I dunno, I just think he's the funniest, and he makes me laugh harder than Shep or anyone else. Also, I like Beckett, mostly because he's the nicest and has a cute accent.

Rodney is ADORKABLE. He's actually the first thing that attracted me to Atlantis, because when I saw those first, ugly promo pictures and read GateWorld's descriptions of the characters (this all long before the pilot aired) I sort of went "hmm, obligatory Air Force pilot, random grunt, annoying alien love interest... OMG IT'S THAT MCKAY GUY I LOVE THIS SHOW." But now I, of course, love 'em all to bits, even if the writers do tend to ignore actual plausible and interesting character development in favour of much less interesting plots (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, BRAD *grumbles at Epiphany*) from time to time.

GRODIN! *sniffs* (... and let it be noted that I'll feel terribly embarrassed if it turns out I spelled his name wrong.) Poor little woobie -- long live the crackpot theory that he survived in one of the few not-completely blown up pieces of the weapons/satellite station thingermabob!

I also have lots of love for some of the more minor/secondary characters of the show; total unabashed Zlinky fan girl here, and Major Dimples Lorne isn't too shabby either, oh and of course Cadman is pretty cool too. Oh, and then of course there are the likable assholes like Kavie-wavie, and everyone's favorite paranoid nudnik, Sgt. Bates (I hope you come out of your Wraith-induced coma soon and come back to Atlantis and be like, "... dudes, The Long Good-Bye totally never would have happened if I was around and also my replacement is clearly an idiot for putting our two big leaders next to the unknown dangerous alien technology, kthnxbai -- P.S. I totally would have caught on to Cadwell having a snake in his head, like, wow *so* fast, but that's what you get for ignoring my existence, ha!"). Oh, and Heightmyer is pretty cool too because, wow, talk about being in over your head, huh?

But, um. Of the main characters? A little bit of a Shep-whore here, I must admit (his hair has its own timezone, and that's an attractive quality in a man). However Rodney is, as was aforementioned, adorkable and constantly has me giggling. Oh, and I also think Weir has the potential to be a far better character than she is -- more-like Galatica's Roslin, I think -- but I don't think the writer's of Atlantis could pull that off.

Oh? And the Genii? Are always a wicked good fun time (in, you know, a deadly kind of way) I always look forward to them.

Ja, zhat is how zhey spell it.
I agree Zelenka, Lorne and Cadman are all enjoyable characters as well. Kavanaugh and Bates are not really my favourites, but I do enjoy it when minor characters get the spotlight.
Heightmeyer I could do without, though. Shrinks are not my bag.

There really is a hell of a lot of potential in the series that isn't being used, in my opinion. Weir is a good example. Perhaps we should organise an extremely violent coup and take over as the SGA writing staff. That'd be neat.

.........beckett is cool too. and mckay. but lorne is the best.
